Over the past fifty years, top equine surgeons and veterinarians have attempted to save these horses. There have been both failures and successes. Cases have shown that rescued horses can maintain a fairly good quality of life after treatment; therefore, the notion that euthanasia after a fracture is the only 'humane solution' is often misleading.
If industry leaders do not try to apply advanced surgical and treatment methods, horses with leg fractures caused by horse racing will never have a chance to be saved.
